Gemtech Quickmount Muzzle Brake

Posted in Muzzle Devices

The Gemtech Muzzle Brake is a muzzle device that acts as a flash hider as well as a simple and effective attachment system for the appropriate line of Gemtech suppressors. Like most muzzle devices, this reduces felt recoil and muzzle climb, resulting in faster followup shots. It is available for either 5.56mm or .30 Caliber firearms, and each is compatible with a number of different Gemtech Suppressors. The design also incorporates dual locking lugs that securely fasten the suppressor in place quickly and easily. This is overall the fastest and most hassle free method of mounting and dismounting a suppressor that we have tested to date. With very little practice or instruction, nearly anyone can install or remove the suppressor in under a second. The suppressor is aligned, pushed down onto the muzzle break and rotated into position so that it engages the locking lugs.6

As has been an issue with all removable suppressor attachments that we have tested, fouling can become an issue, especially when using lower quality ammunition. While the fouling is not regularly an issue, we have had it become so bad that removing the suppressor became very difficult. To be fair, we only began experiencing issues in removing the suppressor while testing the Slide Fire Bump Stock. We put many hundreds of rounds through the test firearms in short order with quite dirty burning ammunition. In regular use and with normal removal/cleaning this should be little or no concern. Due to the somewhat complicated design, the brake does take time to clean fully once the fouling becomes built up. The best way that we have found to clean parts such as this is by using an ultrasonic cleaning bath.

Fit and finish are both very good. The machining is very good, as has been the case with all Gemtech products that we have tested to date. The matte finish is durable, scratch resistant, and experienced no issues with any of the many solvents that we cleaned with. The Quickmount securely attached all tested suppressors in perfect alignment. We had no issues with baffle strikes or any other malfunction.

The process of installing the muzzle brake on your barrel is no different than with other brakes. The 5.56 version is threaded for 1/2 x 28, and the .30 caliber is 5/8 x 24. The installation flats are 3/4″, and provide a solid surface to timing the brake. The 5.56 muzzle brake is compatible with the M4-96D, G5, G5T, Shield, HVT-QM, Quicksand, and ONE suppressors. The .30 Caliber version is compatible with the TPR-S, HVT-QM, Quicksand, and ONE suppressors.

The brakes are only available in black, with a durable finish and laser marked manufacturer information and caliber. MSRP is 99.00 for either the 5.56mm or .30 caliber versions.
